Projects

Here are a few examples of our projects. Small scale initiatives funded by our supporters can have a big impact - but there is always more we want to do. Please consider helping us make a difference with a regular or one off donation. Thank you!

Transforming lives, one well at a time

Our team worked tirelessly to drill and install a hand pump, bringing fresh water to approximately 350 villagers. This achievement is more than just a project – it's a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication to create a better world.

Clean water is a fundamental human right, and we're honoured to play a role in making it a reality for the people of Ngweze Sikanbwe / Simuyuni village who have had no clean water since the establishment of the village since 1970’s.

We envision a future where every community has access to this basic necessity, and we're committed to making that vision a reality.

Community engagement - a crucial element

Our poultry project, which is home to 200 birds has been funded by CATS-Conservation And Tourism Society to promote community empowerment through sustainable farming initiatives, particularly in areas affected by human-animal conflict, such as the Maloni community which has been impacted by elephant conflicts.

Through our partnership, a Conservation Education program and skills training have been introduced, receiving positive feedback from community leaders and members, who have shown good participation in the program.

The community greatly appreciates the knowledge gained from these initiatives.

Transforming trash into treasure

We were thrilled to announce the successful completion of a transformative Skills Training Workshop on Waste Management and Reduction, empowering community members with expertise to drive meaningful change, promote environmental stewardship, and unlock new economic opportunities.

Through hands-on training in waste sorting, recycling, and up cycling, participants gained invaluable experience; we applaud their commitment and passion.

Let us continue to collaborate towards a brighter, more sustainable future.

From junk to gems -

creativity at work

With thousands of used glass bottles and plastic containers that’d otherwise chucked away as waste every year what can we do to upcycle them? We encourage local children in Maloni to transform them into amazing products – while giving kids the fulfilment of creating new things and understand they have a voice in local sustainability.

The hospitality industry in Livingstone is one of the industries that is producing waste in the environment at a large scale but the question still remains how responsible are you towards the environment?

We are calling upon hospitality industry Ministry of Tourism Zambia through Hon. Rodney Malindi Sikumba to continue the support in sustainable and responsible tourism.

Education for all our young people

Prisca and Mary continue to benefit from the Foundation, advancing their education and increasing the number of our fully sponsored students to three, with one boy and two girls. As Zambia promotes girls' education, we are joining forces to include boys in this campaign.  â€‹

REK Foundation's community engagement programmes reveal a concerning dropout rate among boy children, largely overlooked due to the emphasis on girls' education, leading to their stigmatization as 'Junkies' within the community.

How can we revise our campaign to provide education for all?

Resolving human-animal conflict issues on our doorstep

The area of Maloni is disproportionately affected by human-animal conflict, resulting in numerous fatalities annually. Our awareness event was a groundbreaking initiative, following years of human activities encroaching on the animal corridor, as well as prevailing negative perceptions towards elephants.

Nevertheless, the awareness event led by CATS with help from the REK Foundation has sparked a change in attitude among the Maloni community, who now have a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts.

This is very much an ongoing project and one that is relevant to many local communities in our region.
